Starting October 1, 2026, health regions must begin treatment within 30 days.
This rule applies to 18 to 24-year-olds with mild anxiety or depression.
Your general doctor must first refer you for treatment.
This new right directly benefits young international students and early-career workers in Denmark.
Previously, waiting times for psychologist care varied widely across the country.
Some young people waited six months for help.
Others were seen the next day.
The new guarantee ensures fast access to care for everyone in this age group.
Parliament passed the change in December 2025.
It is part of a 10-year plan for psychiatric care.
Regions can offer treatment at public facilities or private partners.
Care may include psychologist sessions, group programs, or online courses.
Jane Alrø Sørensen from the group Bedre Psykiatri welcomed the new right.
She noted that early intervention is key to mental health recovery.
Region Østdanmark expects around 9,500 young people to be referred each year.
