/ DANGDI / DANGDI / DANGDI /Denmark now has over 1.17 million state pensioners. This milestone directly affects public spending and local workplace trends. According to CPH Post, August set a new record with 1,175,187 state pensioners. It was the 13th consecutive month to reach a new high.
People live longer in Denmark today. Large generations are also reaching state pension age. Yet many new retirees choose to keep working. In July, 24.6 percent of 67-year-olds stayed in paid employment. That compares with 10.6 percent in July 2022.
Rules allow retirees to earn money without cutting their state pension. Thomas Gress from pension firm Velliv explained this trend. He said some people want full freedom in retirement. Others prefer keeping their work routines, social ties, and tax perks.
Higher pensioner numbers are raising public spending. Statistics Denmark said social benefits cost 908 billion Danish kroner last year. State pensions were the largest cost at 170 billion Danish kroner. Velliv expects state pensioner numbers to grow until 2029. By then, about one in five residents will receive state pensions.
