/ DANGDI / DANGDI / DANGDI /A major data breach leaked 8.8 million personal CPR records in Denmark. You should check your credit warning settings in the CPR register. Nearly one million people in Denmark have now set a credit warning. The number reached 970,000 on October 7. That is up from 250,000 on October 1.
Unauthorized parties accessed the system for 10 days in September. They used the legal CPR access of a small Danish firm. Authorities noticed the issue when the firm got a huge bill. Each search in the register costs a fee. Officials do not know who did it. They have not named the firm.
A credit warning helps stop loans made in your name. It forces companies to run extra identity checks. The Agency for Societal Security recommends it if you suspect fraud. Digital Affairs Minister Christina Egelund praised the public response. She said it is too early to issue new CPR numbers.
