/ DANGDI / DANGDI / DANGDI /Plan ahead if you commute between Copenhagen and Sweden this Thursday evening. The Øresund Bridge will close to all car traffic in both directions. The closure takes place on Thursday, October 1, 2026. It will last from 8:00 PM until 11:15 PM.
Danish and Swedish authorities are conducting a major emergency response exercise. The test simulates a serious accident inside one of the tunnel tubes. Emergency vehicles will be visible on the bridge during the exercise. Copenhagen Police confirmed that the operation is planned and safe.
Chief Police Inspector Peter Dahl stressed there is no danger to the public. Regular exercises ensure authorities can handle serious situations across the border. Smaller joint tests happen regularly between Denmark and Sweden. However, full-scale exercises like this one occur less frequently.
Drivers should allow extra travel time or check alternative routes. Copenhagen Police will issue an update on Politi Update when traffic resumes. The bridge will reopen immediately once the exercise finishes. The story was reported by Copenhagen Post.
