/ DANGDI / DANGDI / DANGDI /Residents in Denmark will soon see fewer phone scams from fake local numbers. Danish telecom companies must block fake calls from abroad starting in 2027.
The Danish Agency for Digital Government announced the new draft rules recently. Fraudsters often use caller ID spoofing to trick phone users. They make foreign calls look like official Danish phone numbers. People trust local numbers more easily than unknown foreign ones.
Under the new system, telecoms will check where the number is located. If a call uses a Danish number from abroad, it is fake. Network operators will automatically block these suspicious calls.
The government agency admits the measure cannot stop every phone scam. However, it will make spoofing much harder for international criminals. The executive order is currently out for public consultation. The rules should take effect on January 1, 2027. Telecom operators will update their systems before the deadline.
