Øresund Bridge closes Thursday evening for emergency exercise

The Øresund Bridge will close to car traffic on Thursday, October 1. The closure runs from 8 p.m. to 11:15 p.m. All car lanes in both directions will shut down. Drivers between Copenhagen and Sweden must plan ahead.

Danish and Swedish authorities are conducting a joint emergency exercise. The test involves an accident inside one of the tunnel tubes. Copenhagen Police confirmed emergency vehicles will be visible on the bridge. Chief Police Inspector Peter Dahl stressed that there is no danger. He said regular exercises are vital for public safety.

Copenhagen Police will publish updates through their official service, Politi Update. They will reopen the bridge as soon as the test ends. The police carry out small drills regularly with Swedish officials. However, full-scale exercises like this one happen less frequently.
