She first used Ørestad Library while studying at Copenhagen University. Danish university humanities courses feature few in-person class hours. Students must complete many hours of independent study and coursework. Pouncey used the local library for studying and printing documents.
Danish libraries are not completely silent spaces like in some countries. Visitors use them for group meetings, work, and child play. Libraries offer a great alternative space to work or study. However, people needing intense quiet may prefer staying at home.
Buying books in Denmark can be very expensive for readers. Public libraries in Copenhagen stock hundreds of popular English books. Readers can easily borrow major bestsellers without paying high costs.
Libraries also host many events for parents and young children. During parental leave, parents can attend baby rhythm classes together. These classes feature singing, dancing, drumming, and clapping activities. Libraries also organize workshops on baby first aid and solid foods. They even offer advice on raising multilingual children in Denmark.
Children can enjoy cushioned play areas in local libraries. Copenhagen Central Library and Tårnby Library provide dedicated toy facilities. Copenhagen Central Library even features specialized parking for prams. These public spaces offer a welcoming Scandinavian experience for families.
