WHO Certifies Denmark for Eliminating Mother-to-Child HIV Transmission
Denmark has become the first EU nation certified by the WHO for eliminating mother-to-child transmission of HIV and syphilis.

/ DANGDI / DANGDI / DANGDI /Denmark is the first EU country to stop HIV transmission from mother to child. The World Health Organization certified this success. It highlights high healthcare quality in the Nordic region.
The WHO also certified Denmark for stopping mother-to-child syphilis transmission. WHO head Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus commended Denmark. He praised strong primary care and maternal health systems.
WHO experts reviewed data in June 2025 and August 2025. Denmark met all health goals from 2021 to 2024. The country achieved low transmission and high testing rates.
WHO Europe director Dr Hans Henri P. Kluge praised the achievement. Denmark tested and treated over 95 percent of pregnant women. Infant infection rates stayed below 50 per 100,000 births.
Denmark is now working to eliminate hepatitis B as well. Health Minister Sophie Loehde praised midwives and medical teams. The nation joins 22 other countries with this WHO status. Source: UNRIC.
