Record Number of Workers Earn Denmark's Tax-Free Senior Bonus
More residents in Denmark are choosing to stay employed after pension age to receive tax-free senior bonus payouts.

/ DANGDI / DANGDI / DANGDI /International workers planning a long career in Denmark can boost their savings. You can earn over 56,000 Danish kroner tax-free by working past pension age. A record 17.5 percent of people reaching state pension age qualified in 2025.
Data from pension administrator ATP shows that 11,351 seniors received the bonus last year. This figure is up from 9,592 people in 2024. In earlier years, about 14 to 15 percent qualified.
To qualify, a person must work at least 1,560 hours in 12 months. The first-year bonus pays 56,327 Danish kroner. A second year of qualifying work pays 33,517 Danish kroner.
ATP paid 546.4 million Danish kroner in first-year bonuses in 2025. Just under 6,775 people also received the second bonus last year. In 2029, the first bonus will rise to nearly 65,900 Danish kroner. The second bonus will increase to 39,100 Danish kroner.
Employment Minister Ane Halsboe-Jørgensen welcomed the rising numbers. ATP Director Maria Damborg Hald said pension age is not the end of work. This story was reported by the Copenhagen Post.
