SAS Launches 80th Anniversary Flights to New York
Scandinavian Airlines marks 80 years with special transatlantic flights and a major fleet update.

/ DANGDI / DANGDI / DANGDI /Flying from Copenhagen to North America is getting an upgrade. Scandinavian Airlines is celebrating its 80th anniversary. SAS is launching special flights to New York from Copenhagen, Stockholm, and Oslo.
The airline traces its history to September 17, 1946. A DC-4 aircraft called Dan Viking flew from Stockholm to New York. That journey took 25 hours. It stopped in Copenhagen, Prestwick, and Gander. The flight carried only 28 passengers.
Today, SAS operates direct flights from Copenhagen in under eight hours. The airline is also renewing its fleet. It is buying up to 40 new Airbus widebody jets. It will also add 55 Embraer regional aircraft. SAS continues to modernize its Airbus A320neo fleet.
These investments will improve long-distance travel from Copenhagen. SAS CEO Anko van der Werff highlighted the value of cross-border cooperation. SAS will hold a celebration in New York on September 18, 2026. The event is hosted with Scandinavian diplomats.
