/ DANGDI / DANGDI / DANGDI /Fewer people in Denmark owe money to the public sector today.
According to Gældsstyrelsen, 687,000 citizens currently have public debt.
This includes money owed to police, municipalities, or tax authorities.
The total is almost half a million lower than three years ago.
In 2023, over 1.1 million citizens owed money to the state.
DR reported these figures from the Danish Debt Agency.
The agency pointed to several reasons for this drop.
Citizens can now log into the online portal called 'mit gældsoverblik'.
They can easily pay off their debt directly on that platform.
In the past, technical issues prevented some citizens from paying.
In addition, the agency can now write off very small debts.
