/ DANGDI / DANGDI / DANGDI /You must now show identification when picking up prescription medicine in Denmark. Pharmacies no longer accept just a CPR number. This change follows a major leak of personal identity data. The Danish Pharmacists’ Association announced the new security checks.
Customers must show a physical or digital health card. Pharmacies may also ask specific verification questions. If you collect medicine for someone else, bring their health card. Otherwise, staff will ask identity questions before dispensing medicine.
The changes come after unauthorized access to 8.8 million CPR records. The leak happened over ten days in September. A private company’s legal access was abused to collect the data. The National Special Crime Unit is now investigating the security breach.
The Danish Agency for Public Security, Samsik, recommended the tighter checks. Its director stated that CPR numbers alone can no longer prove identity. The Danish Association of General Practitioners also asked doctors to follow suit. The incident was also reported to the Danish Data Protection Agency. The CPH Post reported these new pharmacy identity requirements.
