Denmark reduces PISA school testing frequency to every four years

Danish public school students will now take PISA tests every four years. This change reduces the testing burden on local schools. The Ministry of Education confirmed the new schedule to the magazine Folkeskolen.

PISA tests assess 15-year-old students in reading, mathematics, and science. Over 90 countries and regions take part in the global study. The tests have taken place every three years since 2000.

The international PISA steering group decided on this longer interval. High costs were a key factor behind the decision. The latest PISA test cost Denmark nearly 24 million Danish kroner. That recent test showed record low academic scores for Danish 15-year-olds. The longer gap will also cut stress for teachers and students.
