Copenhagen School Reading Project Boosts Student Book Borrowing

Families in Copenhagen can see new ways local schools support childhood reading. A pilot project in Copenhagen recently boosted children's leisure reading. The project ran between Amager Fælled School and Copenhagen city libraries. It aimed to tackle low national PISA literacy scores in Denmark.

The collaboration delivered strong results among participating pupils. Library book borrowing surged by 127 percent during the trial. Weekly leisure reading among pupils also rose by 8 percent. This successful model offers key insights into local primary education initiatives. It shows how public libraries actively help children build better reading habits.
