Denmark plans 100,000 DKK fine for repeated residency violations

Denmark plans to raise fines for repeated violations of residency rules to 100,000 DKK.

Housing Minister Jacob Mark announced the proposed change to Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten.

The current maximum fine for a second violation is 20,000 DKK.

The new proposed penalty would be five times higher than the current fine.

Minister Jacob Mark belongs to the Socialist People's Party, known as SF.

He stated that cheating on residency rules damages the local housing system.

Residents in Denmark must comply with strict address registration rules.

Local authorities use fines to prevent people from misrepresenting their actual residential status.
