Denmark Considers Banning Advance Electricity Billing

Danish electricity customers may soon stop paying for power in advance. This change could protect household budgets from sudden supplier bankruptcies.

Climate and Energy Minister Samira Nawa wants to end advance billing. She belongs to the Social Liberal Party, Radikale Venstre. The ministry will check if a total ban is legally possible.

The plan follows a series of recent power company bankruptcies. Many customers lost pre-paid money when suppliers went out of business. Consumers struggled to recover their money from bankruptcy estates.

A ban on advance billing would protect residents paying power bills. The proposal remains under investigation by the ministry, as reported by The Copenhagen Post.
