Danish Parliament Plans New Security and Residence Rules
Denmark's government has published its legislative plan for the coming year, introducing direct changes for foreign students and workers.

In November 2026, a new university bill is planned. Universities will gain powers to conduct security checks on foreign applicants. This aims to prevent technology transfers to foreign states. By February 2027, authorities will inform universities if a student loses residency.
Rules for cross-border workers and Ukrainian residents are also changing. Cross-border commuters and EU posted workers will pay residence permit fees. A bill in October will tighten residency rules for some Ukrainians. It will also add work requirements for displaced Ukrainians.
The government plans return centres in third countries outside the EU. A bill in November 2026 will create this legal framework. It targets foreigners who reside illegally in Denmark.
