/ DANGDI / DANGDI / DANGDI /Families in Zealand should watch school lunch safety due to a salmonella outbreak. Danish health authorities have reopened an investigation into the outbreak.
The outbreak is linked to a shared school meal service in Zealand. Statens Serum Institut has recorded 33 cases since April 2026.
Most patients are children aged 3 to 15 years old. Six adults have also fallen sick from this bacterial strain. Eight cases were registered after the recent summer break.
DNA sequencing shows the patient bacteria samples are closely related. This indicates that the cases likely share a common infection source. Investigators are still searching for the exact food source.
Meanwhile, Danish officials are tracking a second separate salmonella outbreak. This second outbreak infected 33 people in August 2026. Cases were reported across Denmark, including Hovedstaden and Zealand. Patients in that group range from 6 to 83 years old.
According to Food Safety News, investigations into both outbreaks are ongoing.
