/ DANGDI / DANGDI / DANGDI /Applying for Swedish citizenship now requires functional Swedish language skills. However, official rules on which tests count remain completely unclear.
Sweden introduced the new Swedish language requirement for citizenship applicants. The official new language test will not be ready until 2030. Applicants must rely on existing language tests during this transition.
The Swedish government and the Migration Agency now disagree on the process. Neither side accepts the job of deciding which existing tests are valid. Both institutions continue to blame each other for the confusion.
Campaign group Fair Transition spoke out against the official delay. Spokesperson Patrick Gallen called the situation incompetence compounding incompetence at every level.
Future applicants must wait until authorities agree on valid test standards. Sveriges Radio reported on this ongoing administrative dispute.
