/ DANGDI / DANGDI / DANGDI /Internationals in Copenhagen can meet locals and practice Danish by volunteering. British actor Vivienne McKee highlighted this opportunity in a column for The Copenhagen Post. She pointed to an organization called Cycling Without Age.
Connecting with Danes can be challenging for newcomers. Local residents often prioritize time with family and close colleagues. Socializing at traditional pubs after work is not a common Danish habit. However, volunteering provides a structured way to build meaningful local connections.
Ole Kassow founded Cycling Without Age in Copenhagen fifteen years ago. The group offers free trishaw bike rides to elderly residents. Its official slogan claims everyone has the right to wind in their hair. Today, the initiative operates in 56 countries with over 62,000 volunteers.
Volunteers pedal trishaw bikes while chatting with passengers and exploring the city. McKee shared her experience cycling with an 89-year-old Danish resident named Carl. She noted that the ride helped her practice Danish with a helpful listener. Joining such initiatives allows internationals to explore Copenhagen while helping others.
