US and China Extend Trade Truce Until January 2027

China and the United States extended their trade truce through January 10, 2027.

The decision provides international policy stability for professionals in Copenhagen.

China Commerce Ministry confirmed the two-month extension on Monday.

The extension gives both sides time to discuss economic disputes.

Chinese President Xi Jinping met US President Donald Trump in Washington last week.

This summit was their second meeting this year.

The two countries established a new trade council.

The council will first discuss tariff cuts covering 30 billion US dollars in goods.

China plans to reduce tariffs on US corn, wheat, dairy, and meat products.

Soybeans are not included in the new tariff reductions.

China already committed to purchase 17 billion US dollars in agricultural products.

It also buys 25 million metric tons of US soybeans annually under previous deals.

An agriculture working group will meet before the end of the year.

In energy trade, China will import US coal in 2027 and 2028.

Annual imports will reach 10 million metric tons.

This represents about two percent of China annual coal imports.

Oil and liquefied natural gas were not included.

Both nations will set up a communication channel for artificial intelligence incidents.

An artificial intelligence dialogue will take place by late November.

China will consider approving foreign financial institutions to open local branches.

Both sides will also discuss increasing direct flights between the countries.
