Sweden Tests New SE-Alert Emergency Mobile Warnings in Stockholm

Sweden tested its new mobile warning system SE-Alert on September 7, 2026. The test reached phones across Stockholm and Gotland. However, a network issue at operator Telia blocked alerts for many subscribers. This exercise shows how emergency messages work for commuters and residents in Scandinavia. Cyber Insider reported that other mobile operators delivered the test alerts normally.

The Swedish Civil Defence and Resilience Agency ran the test at 3 pm. It coincided with the quarterly test of the outdoor alarm network. SE-Alert uses cell broadcast technology to send direct warnings to mobile phones. The system sends loud tones and strong vibrations even to muted phones. Users do not need to register phone numbers or download any app.

Authorities and telecom operators are now conducting a joint technical review. The goal is to fix operator delivery issues before December. Sweden plans to conduct a full nationwide test in December 2026. The test aimed to find infrastructure dependencies before a real crisis occurs.
