The Danish Folketing passed the landmark agricultural nitrogen law on September 3, 2026.
The bill passed with 119 votes in favor and 34 against.
It changes how Denmark monitors fertilizer runoff from farms.
Monitors will track emissions reaching water ecosystems instead of field limits.
The new regulation will officially take effect in January 2027.
The decision came after intense debate across the country.
Public tractor demonstrations previously slowed city traffic in Copenhagen.
