/ DANGDI / DANGDI / DANGDI /Nordic leaders are keeping strict carbon rules intact for heavy industry. This decision protects predictability for green business investments across Sweden and Denmark. Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson joined leaders from Denmark and Finland in a letter. They sent the letter to European Union leadership on October 14. The leaders opposed proposals to soften the EU Emissions Trading System.
The carbon market requires polluting industries to pay for emissions. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo also signed. The message went to Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin. It also went to European Council President António Costa. Another recipient was European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. The leaders warned that weaker rules threaten industrial investment decisions.
Softer requirements would also slow down emissions reductions across Europe. Easing rules for heavy emitters shifts carbon burdens onto other sectors. Other industries would then face steeper cuts to hit climate targets. This firm stance maintains strict climate standards for companies in Sweden. (Source: IceNews)
