Schengen Rules Lower Long-Stay Visa Fingerprint Age to Six

Chinese families in Denmark and Sweden face new rules for long-term visas. Starting September 1, 2026, children aged six and older must give fingerprints in person. This rule applies to all Schengen Category D long-stay visa applications.

Currently, the minimum age for biometric fingerprint collection is twelve years old. The new policy lowers this age limit across all Schengen member states. Children aged six and above must attend visa center appointments in person with their parents.

This change impacts families applying for long-term residence or study visas. It also affects those applying for family reunification in Denmark and Sweden. Parents must prepare for in-person appointments with young children when applying after the effective date.
