Railway Bridge Strikes Cause Train Delays Across Denmark

Train passengers in Denmark face sudden schedule changes and delays. Banedanmark issued an urgent warning after repeated bridge collisions. At least 35 railway bridges were hit by oversized trucks in 2026. These incidents require safety checks and emergency repairs.

The actual number of collisions is likely much higher. Police or citizens reported only those 35 cases. Inspectors find most damage during annual bridge reviews. Around 300 bridges currently show visible hit marks. Some of this damage occurred in previous years.

Banedanmark section manager Mette Ask Hansen urged truck drivers to check route heights. Truck strikes rarely damage the tracks on top. However, every inspection takes valuable time and money. Transport companies must pay heavy fines for these accidents.

Engineers inspect every struck bridge before trains can pass safely. Minor hits only cause superficial concrete scratches. Major hits create large cracks or expose steel support bars. These cases require extensive repair work and disrupt rail services.

Banedanmark also reported other railway work across Denmark. Hillerod Station will receive new footbridge elements in September. Crews will lift the bridge into place in early October. This project will temporarily alter bus and train routes.
