/ DANGDI / DANGDI / DANGDI /Most teenagers in Denmark using popular social media encounter harmful content online. A survey by Denmark’s Agency for Digital Government revealed the new data. Among 514 teen users aged 13 to 17, 72 percent saw harmful material on Snapchat, TikTok, Instagram, or Facebook. These posts featured violence, drugs, alcohol, tobacco, or nicotine.
Tobacco and nicotine content was the most common exposure. About 58 percent of surveyed teens saw cigarettes, vapes, puff bars, or snus online. Meanwhile, 42 percent encountered violent images or videos. The survey did not measure how often teens saw this content.
Research institute Voxmeter conducted the survey for the agency. A total of 1,053 youth aged 8 to 17 answered the questionnaire. Lars Bønløkke Lé, deputy director at the Agency for Digital Government, said many young people face exposure to harmful material. He noted this happens despite platform guidelines aimed at protecting children.
The agency has forwarded the data to the European Commission. The findings come amid growing debate in Denmark regarding children and screen time. (Source: CPH Post)
