/ DANGDI / DANGDI / DANGDI /Copenhagen City Council voted on Thursday to ban high-emission adverts from municipal spaces.
The new restriction covers advertisements for flights, cruises, and new fossil-fuel cars.
Hybrid and plug-in hybrid cars are also included under the advertising ban.
It applies to bus shelters, city-owned land, and municipal buildings across Copenhagen.
The rule restricts specific products rather than banning the advertising companies entirely.
Regular ferry services are exempt from these new city advertising restrictions.
The ads will not disappear immediately from city streets.
The city administration must renegotiate existing contracts with operators like AFA JCDecaux.
Future municipal contracts will include a binding ban on these advert types.
The municipality will also discuss restrictions with transit operators Movia and Metroselskabet.
Thursday's vote does not directly ban ads on buses or the metro.
Privately owned advertising spaces remain completely outside the scope of this ban.
Alternative party leader Karoline Lindgaard supported removing ads that promote high emissions.
Business Mayor Andreas Keil said the focus is on municipal space usage.
Branding expert Sune Bang noted advertisers will easily find other media channels.
