Nearly 189,000 Enter Lottery for 45,000 Copenhagen Half Marathon Places

Planning to run the 2027 Copenhagen Half Marathon? Check your email on October 5. Nearly 189,000 people entered the lottery for 45,000 available spots. Organizers Sparta Atletik & Løb announced the record registration numbers on Thursday.

The race will take place on September 19, 2027. The event had 35,000 registered participants this year. Organizers increased the capacity to a record 45,000 for 2027. However, they could not accept everyone due to safety concerns. Sparta chief executive Dorte Vibjerg said they refuse to compromise on quality.

Organizers switched from first-come sales to a lottery system this year. This gives all applicants an equal chance to win. Major events in Berlin and London use similar lottery systems. Entrants could register alone or in groups up to three people. Group entries win or lose together.

Winners will receive an email on October 5. They will have 48 hours to buy their ticket. A ticket costs 795 Danish kroner plus an administration fee. The Copenhagen Post reported the news on Thursday.
