/ DANGDI / DANGDI / DANGDI /Hackers broke into Denmark's national registry system and accessed millions of personal records. The Digital Affairs Ministry announced the massive cyber breach on Monday. Unauthorised individuals accessed names, addresses, and CPR numbers for 10 days in September. The leak affects about 8.8 million current and former residents of Denmark. Anyone registered in Denmark since 1968 could be affected by this security breach.
A cybersecurity expert called this situation possibly Denmark's biggest security breach ever. The hackers abused a private company's legal access to enter the registry system. Police are now investigating the security log to identify the culprit quickly. The system stores security logs for six months to track all registry searches. Higher Education and Digital Affairs Minister Christina Egelund commented on the issue. She stated it is too early to decide on issuing new CPR numbers.
Residents should stay very alert for targeted scam attempts in the coming months. Scammers may use stolen personal details to send convincing phishing messages. Never share MitID codes, passwords, or credit card details with anyone. Do not click links in unexpected text messages or incoming emails. Setting up a credit alert can also prevent fraudulent loans in your name. (Source: The Local)
