How Denmark's Bottle Deposit System Refunds Your Money

You can get cash back every time you buy drinks in Denmark. The country uses a bottle deposit system called pant.

Shoppers pay a deposit when buying eligible drinks. This fee applies to beer, soda, water, juice, and cider containers. You pay the extra fee upfront at checkouts.

Returning the empty bottles or cans recovers your money. Stores process these refunds through return machines. The system turns recycling and street collecting into a routine part of daily life. The Copenhagen Post reported on how the refund process works.
