/ DANGDI / DANGDI / DANGDI /Google will soon turn off artificial intelligence tools by default for school students. Schools must actively turn these tools back on for pupils. This change affects students from kindergarten through high school.
The update applies to Gemini, Gemini Notebook, Gemini in Classroom, and Google Search. Chris Phillips from Google told The New York Times about another key change. Students might also lose access to Google Search if schools block AI tools. This is because search and AI are now closely integrated.
Many public and international schools in Denmark rely on Google Classroom for daily assignments. Worldwide, over 150 million students use the platform. The new default settings will give local school administrators full control over AI access.
Google made this decision after concerns from U.S. senators Richard Blumenthal and Josh Hawley. Schools requested more control because students were using AI to complete homework shortcuts. The changes will launch first in the United States before expanding globally. No exact timeline has been announced yet. This report was originally published by CPH Post.
