Giant Pump-Sluice In Kolding May Activate Tonight

Elevated water levels overnight may trigger Kolding's giant new pump-sluice for the first time.

The municipality built the facility after severe flooding hit the area in October 2023.

During that storm, waters rose two meters above normal levels.

The new pump system can handle water levels up to 2.80 meters high.

The Danish Meteorological Institute says current water levels remain far below that limit.

Crews also set up a mobile barrier along the harbour quay today.

Municipal official Mikkel Arveland Christensen said minor flooding would otherwise hit the inner harbour.

Officials expect streets in Kolding to stay completely dry tomorrow morning.
