/ DANGDI / DANGDI / DANGDI /You may soon travel to the Western Balkans without paying extra mobile fees. The European Commission opened official talks to extend free EU mobile roaming. The plan covers six Western Balkan countries. These are Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Serbia.
Once negotiations finish, the region will join the EU Roam Like at Home scheme. Travelers can then call, text, and use mobile data without extra charges. You will not need to buy local SIM cards when visiting these countries.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced the plan during her regional visit in October 2026. The Council of the EU previously approved the talks in June 2026. The new agreements will link to existing Stabilisation and Association Agreements.
Bilateral talks are now underway with all six partner nations. The partners must fully align their telecom rules with EU roaming standards. After that, the European Commission will ask the Council to finalize the extension. (Source: European Commission)
