EU pushes China for hybrid car export limit under tariff threat
Brussels asks Beijing to limit hybrid exports to 15 percent of the EU car market, warning that new tariffs will follow if no agreement is reached.

/ DANGDI / DANGDI / DANGDI /Chinese hybrid car prices in Denmark and Sweden may soon rise. The European Union has asked China to limit hybrid vehicle exports. Officials warn that new tariffs will follow if Beijing refuses voluntary caps.
Brussels wants Chinese hybrids capped at 15 percent of the EU market. Today, that market share is over one third. Import numbers grew thirteenfold between October 2024 and July 2026. Monthly sales rose from 3,800 to 50,000 cars.
European carmakers face heavy pressure from lower-cost Chinese imports. Volkswagen recently approved plans to cut 100,000 jobs worldwide by 2030. In response, Brussels wants to protect European factories and jobs.
The EU already put tariffs up to 45 percent on electric cars. However, buyers switched to hybrids, which face only ten percent tariffs. Now, Brussels is pushing for managed trade across all vehicle types.
