EU Proposes 'Buy European' Rules Affecting Chinese Firms in Denmark

Chinese business owners in Denmark and Sweden face tighter public contract rules. The European Commission has proposed a major overhaul of public procurement rules. Public authorities across member states can now prioritize European suppliers over foreign bids.

The single regulation replaces existing directives across all member states. Authorities can now evaluate security of supply and environmental impact. They can also assess European content instead of choosing the lowest price. This shift aims to reduce reliance on foreign suppliers and low-cost Chinese competition.

The rules directly target public sector contracts worth 2.6 trillion euros annually. Local government tenders in Denmark and Sweden will follow these guidelines.
