Denmark to Postpone Citizenship Bill and Reopen Applications
Denmark plans stricter checks and case reopenings for citizenship applicants, alongside a major CPR data breach.

It will delay the current citizenship bill for a full review. The immigration minister said Denmark has the strictest immigration policy ever. He added that the country must keep this strict policy.
Officials will reopen pending cases even if applicants passed all tests. They will reopen cases even if applicants meet all requirements. The government did not say what happens if your status changes during waiting. For example, it is unclear what happens if an applicant loses a job.
Separately, a massive data leak has hit Denmark. A CPR system breach exposed details of 8.8 million people. The leak includes names, addresses, and personal CPR numbers. The Ministry of Research, Education and Digitalisation confirmed the breach.
Local services and events are also seeing changes. Payment platform MobilePay is changing its name and logo. Opera star Plácido Domingo will perform on October 20, 2026. He will show at Royal Arena with a Danish orchestra.
