Denmark to Improve Staffing Ratios in Preschool SFOs
Children starting Danish preschool leisure care will soon receive more adult attention. A new political agreement caps group sizes at six children per staff member.

/ DANGDI / DANGDI / DANGDI /Children in Denmark will soon get more support when transitioning to primary school. The government agreed to improve adult-to-child ratios in preschool leisure schemes. These schemes are commonly known as førskole-SFO or forårs-SFO. From 2027, there will be at most six children per staff member. This aligns preschool leisure care with the standards used in kindergartens.
The Danish Ministry of Education announced the agreement in a official press release. According to DR, the policy aims to close a staffing gap in spring SFOs. Education Minister Magnus Heunicke stated that safe transitions are essential for children. Minimum staffing ratios were previously included in the 2027 national economy agreement. The new regulation will take effect as soon as possible in 2027.
