The retail giant operates Bilka, Føtex, and Netto stores. The emergency network includes 17 Bilka stores and 32 Føtex stores. It also includes two Netto locations. About 80 percent of Denmark will live within 50 kilometers of a store.
Each store will stock 50 essential items recommended by Danish authorities. Items include oatmeal, protein bars, tuna, beans, and canned meatballs in curry. Stores will also sell rice cakes and chickpeas. Non-food items include batteries, wet wipes, and diapers.
Customers can pay offline using physical payment cards. Digital cards on smartphones will also work. Salling Group partnered with payment provider Nets to handle card transactions during system failures. CEO Anders Hagh said this project remains a top priority.
Meanwhile, retail rival Coop has not made a decision yet. Coop operates Brugsen, SuperBrugsen, 365discount, and Kvickly. Risk officer Ulrik Mester said Coop is discussing crisis plans with SAMSIK. SAMSIK is Denmark's Agency for Societal Security, reported CPH Post.
