/ DANGDI / DANGDI / DANGDI /Denmark will resume processing 2,055 paused citizenship applications. This move offers relief to long-term residents waiting for naturalisation. The government decided to resubmit the delayed citizenship bill to parliament.
Immigration Minister Morten Bødskov announced the decision on Monday. Opposition parties strongly criticised the move during a parliamentary debate on Thursday. Far-right politicians questioned the government over security and vetting standards.
Social Democrat spokesperson Rasmus Stoklund defended the bill. He said all 2,055 applicants have undergone checks twice. These checks cover employment history and criminal records. The current rules remain strict.
In Denmark, parliament must pass legislation to grant citizenship. Bills usually appear twice a year, in April and October. Previous delays occurred due to the EU presidency and a general election called in February.
Resubmitting this bill is the final step for these applicants and their children. They will officially receive Danish citizenship once parliament votes on the measure. Source: The Local Denmark.
