/ DANGDI / DANGDI / DANGDI /Denmark will soon build two new marine nature national parks for coastal protection. This investment expands protected waters and creates cleaner spaces for water activities.
On October 8, 2026, the Danish government announced the funding plan. They set aside 67.8 million Danish kroner over three years. The money is part of the 2027 finance bill proposal. The government negotiated the proposal together with the political party Alternativet.
The new parks will undergo active nature restoration beneath the sea surface. Plans include building stone reefs and planting eelgrass on the seabed. Industrial fishing and seabed extraction will be banned in protected areas. Other destructive practices like sludge dumping and bottom trawling will also stop.
Environment Minister Maria Reumert Gjerding of the Socialist People's Party praised the plan. She stated that Danish marine nature faces severe pressure from human exploitation. Torsten Gejl from Alternativet suggested Aarhus Bay as a prime location. He noted that Aarhus Bay has enormous potential but needs urgent help.
The government aims to create five marine nature national parks in total. Denmark already established two marine parks in Øresund and Lillebælt. If the budget passes, political talks will determine the final locations.
