Denmark Reopens Embassy in Syria After 14 Years

Denmark has officially reopened its embassy in Damascus, Syria.

Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen attended the official opening.

He met with Syrian officials to restore full diplomatic relations.

This restores official Danish consular services in Syria.

The embassy had been closed for fourteen years.

Operations were suspended in 2011 after civil war began.

Syria's new authorities toppled Bashar al-Assad in December 2024.

The new government then relaunched ties with European nations.

Other countries have also reopened embassies in Damascus recently.

Turkey and Qatar reopened their missions first.

Spain raised its flag in Damascus in January 2025.

Germany reopened its embassy in March 2025.

Britain restored full diplomatic relations in July 2025.

French President Emmanuel Macron agreed last month to send an ambassador.
