Denmark Reduces Job Search Visas for Non-EU Graduates
Denmark cuts post-graduation job search permits for non-EU students from three years to one year and removes family visa rights, while PhD students remain exempt.

/ DANGDI / DANGDI / DANGDI /Non-EU students in Denmark get less time to find work after graduation. New rules cut the job search visa from three years to one year. The change affects non-EU students in higher education programs. It took effect on October 1, 2026. The Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration made the announcement on September 30, 2026.
The new rules also affect student families. Family members can no longer get residence permits under student rules. However, PhD students are exempt from both changes. PhD students still get three years to look for work. Their family members can still get residence permits.
For non-PhD students in Copenhagen, early job search planning is now essential. Graduates have one year to find work in Denmark. The official announcement is available on nyidanmark.dk.
