Denmark Raises Commuter Tax Deduction for 2026
Copenhagen residents commuting over 12 kilometers to work can now get a higher monthly tax deduction.

- New rate for 25 to 120 km is 3.17 DKK per kilometer.
- Old rate for this distance was 2.23 DKK per kilometer.
- Daily round trip must exceed 24 km to qualify.

The deduction applies to daily round trips over 24 kilometers. Your one-way distance must be over 12 kilometers. The rate for 25 to 120 kilometers is now 3.17 DKK per kilometer. The old rate was 2.23 DKK per kilometer.
Many foreign workers live in Copenhagen and work in nearby towns. You may travel daily to areas like Ballerup, Lyngby, or Roskilde. The same rules apply whether you take train, car, or bike.
You can receive this extra money in your paycheck now. Log into the SKAT website to update your preliminary tax card. This change will lower your monthly tax withholding right away.
