/ DANGDI / DANGDI / DANGDI /Denmark will soon prioritize households and small businesses for power grid connections. The Danish Ministry of Climate, Energy and Utilities presented emergency legislation on August 20, 2026. This bill replaces the traditional first-come, first-served system with a priority hierarchy.
The new rules divide electricity consumers into four distinct priority categories. Households, small businesses, and green transition projects sit in the top two categories. They will receive the highest priority when requesting grid connections.
Lower priority will go to battery installations and very large power consumers. Data centers fall into this lower category and face stricter requirements. Authorities may reject data center applications if energy capacity is insufficient.
Energinet and local grid companies plan to apply these rules starting this autumn. Energy officials warned that grid pressure threatens Denmark's green transition goals. Denmark aims for 100 percent renewable power supply by 2030. It also plans to reach carbon neutrality by 2045. Energinet foresees building thousands of kilometers of new power grid by 2050.
