/ DANGDI / DANGDI / DANGDI /Non-EU workers coming to Denmark may need Danish lessons paid by their employers. The Danish government proposed this requirement during parliamentary budget talks on Monday.
Social Democratic finance spokesperson Kaare Dybvad Bek announced the proposal. The initiative aims to save 100 million Danish kroner. It sends a clear signal that foreign workers must speak Danish.
Dybvad Bek noted that more foreign staff work in Copenhagen service jobs. As a result, many customers are served in English instead of Danish.
The proposal targets workers coming from outside the European Union. Employers would fund language classes before workers arrive in Denmark. Parliament discussed the plan during debate on the 2027 budget bill.
