/ DANGDI / DANGDI / DANGDI /Denmark’s culture minister wants new laws to protect the Danish language.
Zenia Stampe says English loanwords and artificial intelligence threaten the local tongue.
This proposal could shape public media and local language rules in Denmark.
Younger and older Danes frequently use English words during daily conversations.
Stampe noted that middle-aged adults also struggle to find standard Danish words.
Many people use English words like deale or blame instead.
An eighteen-year-old student told broadcaster DR that his English vocabulary is larger.
Stampe believes older generations must teach young people traditional Danish phrases.
The minister wants to revive an earlier package of language laws.
Former culture minister Jakob Engel-Schmidt introduced the original plan in February.
That proposal aimed to give the Danish Language Council a stronger role.
It did not pass before the parliamentary election in March.
Stampe now wants to add new rules to that original package.
She plans to include media agreements for major public broadcasters like DR and TV2.
These agreements will push broadcasters to promote and protect the Danish language.
The minister also expressed concern about artificial intelligence tools.
She warned that AI-generated text is flooding internet opinion pages.
Using machines to write text might weaken personal writing skills over time.
She fears this trend will lead to broader linguistic impoverishment across society.
