Denmark and Sweden Face Historic Drops in PISA School Scores

Denmark plans a total ban on mobile phones in primary and lower secondary schools. This comes after student test scores fell across the Nordic region.

The PISA 2025 results show lower scores for 15-year-olds in Denmark, Sweden, and Norway. Swedish students dropped 21 points in reading comprehension since 2022. Their math scores fell by 18 points. Their science scores dropped by 8 points.

Sweden’s Minister for Education and Integration, Simona Mohamsson, warned about the decline. The drop in performance has caused great political disappointment in all three countries.

Denmark’s proposed phone ban applies to public schools and independent primary schools. It covers all folkeskoler before students enter gymnasiums or technical colleges. This change aims to improve classroom focus and boost learning outcomes.
