The services were temporarily shut down on Wednesday afternoon. Officials acted after discovering a global security flaw. The flaw involved PHP, a common web programming language. This vulnerability exposed websites worldwide to potential attacks.
Aula connects Danish schools, daycare centers, and families. It has around two million active users. More than 600,000 people log in on a normal weekday. Aalborg Municipality confirmed that security measures are now in place. Other affected sites included Copenhagen Municipality and the Danish Meteorological Institute. The Danish Road Directorate was also briefly taken offline. All affected Danish public websites are now open again.
Minister for Societal Security and Preparedness Lisbeth Bech-Nielsen spoke on Wednesday. She emphasized that Denmark did not suffer a cyberattack. However, she warned that unaddressed security flaws carry serious risks. Denmark's National Operational Staff activated its lowest crisis preparedness level. This level is known as information readiness. It allows authorities to coordinate and share information during developing threats.
