Danish Parliament Lowers Work Permit Pay Limit for Select Foreign Workers

Foreign workers from China will soon find it easier to get a Danish work permit.

The Danish parliament has passed a new law to lower the required pay threshold.

The new rules will take effect on January 1st, 2027.

This scheme applies to workers hired by a certified Danish company.

The employer must also have a collective bargaining agreement.

China, including Hong Kong, is on the list of approved countries.

Other eligible nations include the UK, the US, Singapore, Japan, Canada, and Australia.

India, Brazil, and Malaysia are also on the list.

EU candidate countries like Ukraine and Serbia are included too.

The official list of approved countries may change over time.

The scheme will only operate when local unemployment is low.

Workers must earn at least 322,000 Danish kroner per year.

This minimum salary requirement will be updated every year.

Employment Minister Ane Halsboe-Jørgensen said the law protects worker rights.

It aims to attract labor from key trade partner countries.

Parliament also approved mandatory ID cards for large construction sites.

This step aims to combat fraud and social dumping in construction.

It makes checking labor rule compliance much easier for officials.

Three political parties voted against the new work permit legislation.

These were the Denmark Democrats, Conservative People's Party, and Liberal Alliance.
